Weather bound in Caleta Mussel was what we was; until the 18th when we got under way again. Because of the tidal current in Paso Tortuoso which we were in as soon as we left the bay we had to wait until about one hour before high water before leaving. Rain, rain, go away, come again another day – goes the rhyme. The only two problems with the rain here are that it never goes away and it always comes again another day. After a couple of days in Caleta Silva the shine had worn, or washed, off the place and it was time to get moving. We stayed in Puerto Williams for almost two weeks. In that time we made a few adjustments to the systems on the boat (this will no doubt be on-going), the Puerto Williams mechanic skimmed the commutator on the windlass motor which was a bit corroded and seemed to be causing the motor to intermittently refuse to start, and Arnaud from the yacht “Paradise” kindly took the faulty alternator to Ushuaia Read more ›
Well the rain never did let up and allow me to apply that final brushed coat of paint to the topsides that I refer to in the last blog entry!
Once the prop-shaft was back from the machinist it was simple matter to install it and hook it up to the flexible coupling on the gearbox; a final look over the hull, check the anode nuts, etc., and haul her back into her natural element.
Back into the water we go
The tender did eventually get finished and has been working well. I need to get some longer oars to make rowing easier but overall I’m very impressed, she is a very dry and stable little dinghy. Read more ›
